At age 28, I tapered off Klonopin, the tranquilizer I'd taken for 14 months. Unable to sleep and days away from my last dose, I moved in with my parents and their nine pets in California. Mom thought she could heal me with raw food and holistic clinic trips. Family members tried to get me back on drugs. I was losing the faith that had been introduced to my family through unusual circumstances. My parents planned a cross-country move, and I didn't believe I'd be alive to make the trip. This is my story.

One of my siblings is currently tapering of Klonopin after 10 years of using this horrendous drug. When my sibling came to me for help, I was bewildered and not knowing how to help. After learning that he has been taking Klonopin and Paxil for over 10 years, I began researching night & day. Through researching, I stumbled across the name of this book - "Klonopin Withdrawal & Howling Dogs." I immediately downloaded it to my Kindle and began reading.Like another reviewer shared, this book gave me a "window" into my sibling's world. I was able to understand him on a deeper level. It also helped me to read what her mother went through as the author's primary caregiver during the author's withdrawal. To me, the book gave me priceless understanding. No health professional that my sibling has seen, so far, understands Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Syndrome. For example, the psychologist that he tried to establish a relationship with, pretty much rolled his eyes and gave out big, deep sighs as I tried to share what I learned. By the way, my sibling has decided to not seek counseling until "after" withdrawal is nearly completed or completed.
I Googled this author's name and found a short online article that she had written in December 2014 for MAD in America (I think that is the website). I encourage anyone who is going through withdrawals from a benzo and/or a caregiver of a person going through withdrawals to read this book.
This book provides information, encouragement & much-needed hope. By the way, this author is now a photographer. Look for her website: onruralroads DOT com. Beautiful photography!
Audrey Wagner, thank you for sharing your journey! I continue to read excerpts to my sibling to offer him hope. As you know, those going through horrendous withdrawals need daily, consistent reassurance that there is life after withdrawal. Your book offers this and so much more. Heartfelt thank you!

Klonopin Withdrawal Howling Dogs Maybe it was God edition by Audrey Wagner Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
This was a wonderful book to help better understand what it's truly like to suffer from Klonopin withdrawal. Many doctors are not aware of it, and have no way of treating it, most just prescribe more, and by reading this book you realize you are not alone. My mother is currently going through insomnia due to going off of Klonopin, and this book was a fantastic read, I truly felt like my mom could have been the author herself. Audrey and my mother experience many of the exact same things. And when my mother wasn't experiencing the withdrawal symptoms, she is exactly like Audrey's mom, because she has 6 dogs! Thank you for writing this book, it has been a tremendous resource. Klonopin withdrawal is a real thing...it's a real horrible thing. Sadly we are still seeking help with the issue, and so far, reading this book has been the most help I have found so far.
I am going through Klonopin tapering right now. Next week will be the turning point where I'll start actually suffering. Right now I just have some dizziness and I'm using another prescription for sleep, per my doc's orders. He's doing a 6-day crazy taper that scares the bejeezus out of me. I have a job, I hope I'm able to keep myself together and get through this. If not, I'm screwed, because my doc has no sympathy and thinks I've been wasting time tapering off slowly on my own.. I do not want to go through what Audrey went through. Her story was very raw, (sorry, it was annoying at times) but I have great sympathy for the agony that goes along with getting off this oh-so-innocent-seeming drug that doctors hand out prescriptions for like they're candy. Thank you for sharing your story with us, Audrey, and I pray that my withdrawal period is easier, I have been on a pretty low dose for quite a few years.
I didn't think it was possible to enjoy a book about benzo withdrawal, but Audrey's warmth, humor, and skillful writing, made this an excellent read. While I'm not a Christian, I'm very spiritually oriented, and could easily relate to her way of seeing and seeking connection with Spirit in the midst of this almost insurmountable ordeal.
It is unfair that Drs prescribe benzos so casually, little knowing the hell of withdrawal for many. If Drs would say "You could be one of the 1/3 of users who go through desperate struggles for months and years to get off this drug", how many would start taking a benzo???
My mother was prescribed Zanax for over 10 years, and eventually, at age 74, was diagnosed with dementia. Nowadays, many Drs. prescribe it for only 2 wks at a time, and not to people over 65, because it can cause short-term memory loss. My mother nor our family understood what was happening to her at the time (in the 1990's).
Now many years later, I've used my benzo knowledge to help a loved one withdraw from klonopin, prescribed for sleep for 4 years, but not at the horrific level Audrey was given. My friend desperately struggled, and finally was given a low-dose of Seroquel to help her taper off, but not before her gut, her mind, her self-confidence, and even her balance were all affected. She HAS regained her health, AND it took many months.
Audrey relates how she used internet support forums to learn from others who have gone through this, but some going through this are too overwhelmed to use the forums. At least that was the case w/ my loved one, so I looked up info for her.
Audrey describes well how even the most loving mother and step-father, who generously support Audrey as she goes through the horror of a sleepless withdrawal, can be baffled and stretched thin. But, God love and bless them, they take care of her, as well as their family of animals!!
Last of all, how come there are places to detox from alcohol, and opiates, but so little is provided for people going thru Benzo withdrawal???
Many thanks Audrey for bringing to public light more about Benzo accidental addiction and withdrawal.
